Julie Brash

Welcome!

I am passionate about providing practical and emotional support to new and growing families.

The Postpartum Doula

The postpartum period, a newborn’s first three months of life, is a unique and transformative time in parents’ lives.  Our society expects parents to be superheroes: magically able to balance caring for themselves, their family, a new person, work commitments and a social life.  You don’t have to go it alone.

The postpartum doula teaches parents specific skills and practices related to newborn care. Postpartum doulas are trained to explain and support breastfeeding/infant feeding skills, foster bonding, and suggest coping skills.  All this essentially focuses support on the mother and the partner as they transition into life with a new baby.

As your postpartum doula, I offer physical, emotional, and mental support to any and all members of your house.  At our intake meeting, we will discuss your family’s immediate and long terms needs. Together, we will create a plan that will allow you to appreciate your new baby and this transformative time for your family.

I hope when our work together is finished, you feel more confident in your parenting skills, trust in your intuition and gained courage in your decision making skills.

Parenting is hard work.  Collaboration, communication and community make it better.

Mission and Values

Values

Honesty
I promise to be honest. I am not a medical provider or diagnostician. I will refer out for services when the situation dictates.

Non-judgemental
I promise to nurture parents’ confidence. You are the one who knows your baby best. You are your child’s best advocate.

Empathetic
I promise to promote the health of women and their babies.  This is a time of healing, as well as transition.

Respectful
I promise to be respectful.  Being a parent and growing your family is a sacred and vulnerable time.  It is my privilege to nurture and support you all during this time.

Practical
I promise to share current research and theory and then guide you to make your own decisions. Concrete instruction in newborn care will support your family’s transition and growth.

Reliable
I promise to be reliable.  We will sign a contract outlining my responsibilities and establishing expectations.

Confidential
I promise to protect your privacy. This is a intimate, personal time.  Thank you for letting me in.
